Ashurst - Hampshire

Ashurst is right on the edge of the national park boundary but as you leave nearby Totton driving on the A35 the built up town ambience gradually changes and your mood seems to mellow as the scenery slowly changes and once over the bridge by Ashurst Station you instantly know you have reached the edge of the forest.

Ashurst station is a popular stop of for local cyclists and hikers who can hop on a train in the city of Southampton (or elsewhere for that matter) and get off ready for a nice day or two in the park without having to worry about car parking or potential traffic jams during the peak season.

Originally part of Totton & Eling , Ashurst has grown over the years as planning permission has relaxed slightly and more homes have become available in the area.

Ashurst is now it own parish which is correctly known as Ashurst & Colbury parish council as it encompasses the neighbouring village of Colbury.

Ashurst has a variety of shops and restaurants and pubs and is situated right on the edge of the forestry commission campsite which is set in a delightful woodland glade, and caters for static, caravans, motor homes and tents.

The area is an ideal base for a New Forest holiday and all of the local attractions the nearest of which is Longdown Dairy Farm (excellent for the kids). Also there are excellent road connections if you wish to pop down to the beaches at Bournemouth or Poole for the day.

Ashurst is also only about 30 minutes drive to the more local beaches at Calshot and Lepe Country park, which not quite as glamorous as the Blue flag Dorset beaches none the less offer a good family day out.

Ashurst is also close to the communities of Denny Wood, Netley Marsh and Bartley
