Christchurch

If you are an avid history fan and a sea person then Christchurch is the right choice for you. Christchurch is the neighbouring village to Bournemouth Dorset. It is famous for beaches and sailing. This quaint little town is as old as the Iron Age.

This town is also known to house the Christchurch Priory which is the longest parish church in England at 311 feet. The priory is as old as the Norman and Perpendicular periods.

According to the popular folklore the town got its current name due to the workings of a mysterious carpenter who supposedly fashioned the miraculous beam in the priory. As this was seen as a miracle the church became known as Christ’s Church of Twynham and the name of the town became Christchurch-Twynham. Later in historical times the Twynham part was dropped and the town was known by it current name of Christchurch.

There are a numerous other buildings in Christchurch which are worth visiting like Georgian Red House Museum and Gardens.

There are lots of things to do in Christchurch. In summers you can take a ferry trip or hire a boat. Nature lovers can enjoy the wildlife at Stanpit Marshes. Beach bums can enjoy themselves at Mudeford, the main beach. There are a lot of sea sports to choose from and if you like shopping, you can shop at the market on Mondays.

This little town is ideal for those who are seeking a quiet vacation and break from the fast life. Here, life walks at a slow pace and people enjoy the journey more than the destination. The food is a multi cuisine and there are many restaurants to choose from. Though all the restaurants are good, there are some that are worth a mention.

The Pinocchio’s is known for its sumptuous Italian cuisine while The Crooked Beams restaurant is famous for its delicious French restaurant. There are a lot of quaint little pubs which serve good food in and around Christchurch.

There are a lot of advantages in visiting Christchurch. This town is located on the outskirts of the New Forest in Hampshire hence people visiting Christchurch or using it as a base can also take a trip the New Forest and revel in its scenic beauty and abundant wild life.

This town is located midway between Dorset and Hampshire attractions. It is also in close proximity to Boscombe, Bournemouth and Poole. Hence it’s quite easy to visit these hotspots while visiting Christchurch. There are also many other worth-seeing towns and villages located in the New Forest like Lamington and Burley.

You can also go for cycle rides in the New Forest and the neighbouring areas. You can also visit the giant stone mausoleum at the Castle walk where a lady called Mrs. Perkins was buried alive. No one knows why she was buried alive, but this mausoleum is a big tourist attraction.

So, if you want to stop your fast paced life for a few days and strolls in leisure with your partner, come to this little town. Like the famous poem by William Henry Davis says “What is this life if full of care; If we have no time to stand and stare. This quaint little town has a lot to offer and will refresh you. You can feast your eyes on the scenic beauty and come back raring to go!
