Dorset Camping

Dorset Camping - Campsites and Camping Facilities in Dorset

The South Coast is becoming an ever popular destination for families wishing to stay in the UK for their annual holiday and with the increased interest in camping holidays and self catering holidays what could be a better combination than camping in Dorset.

Dorset camping is not becoming popular just because of the increased interest in camping though, being situated on what is arguably the Riviera of the south coast; the region has a huge amount to offer visitors to the area.

With the UK's newest national park, The New Forest in one direction and some of the UK's best blue flag beaches on the coast here as well, Dorset has enough attractions to keep you occupied for your entire holiday.

Unlike the New Forest, a majority of Dorset campsites are privately owned and offer all the amenities needed to keep your self catering or camping holiday a stress free one. Dorset campsites tend to range from Static campsites (or holiday parks) many with children’s playgrounds, swimming pools, pitch and putt and some with evening entertainment facilities all the way to camp sites offering basic amenities for simpler camping requirements.

As facilities in each holiday park will vary do make sure you ask the important questions to ensure that your chosen campsite is right for you.

The main towns and Cities in East Dorset (althought there is plenty to see and do in the rest of Dorset as well) are Bournemouth, Poole (furthest to the west) and Christchurch. Bournemouth is by far the liveliest offering a range of attractions and of course the famous beaches while Poole has one of the biggest natural harbours in the world and is a Mecca for the boating community. Christchurch is the quietest of the resorts.

For campers wishing to experience the true wild camping adventure then the nearby New Forest has a range of camp site to choose from.

A majority of these are run by the Forestry Commission and offer little or no amenities although they do have some with better facilities that are more suitable for family groups or if like the romance of sleeping under the stars but still want a refreshing shower in the morning.

Details of the New Forest's camp sites can be found on the New Forest campsites page.
