Lepe Country Park
Lepe Country Park
Lepe Country Park is an ideal place to visit if you have children (although its good for adults too) and a firm favourite of the local community who often come down for a picnic on a warm sunny day.
Lepe Country Park is situated right on the outskirts of the national park and is not to far from it's neighbouring beach at Calshot and the Calshot Activity Centre, a favourite location for windsurfers especially in challenging conditions, as well as Exbury Gardens and Beaulieu which are only a short drive away.
The park is almost split at two levels with "top green" which is lined with Monterey and Corsican Pines, being the most suitable for picnics and games or for playing in the children’s play area. But the beach is also ideal is you want to relax and listen to the waves lapping on the shore.
Barbecues (both the portable and disposable variety) are not allowed in the park area but there is a good barbecue area that can be hired for very reasonable rates.
The views across the Solent from the top cliff are simply stunning with some fantastic views right across to the isle of Wight. This is the favourite viewing spot for Cowes week to watch the yachts racing and the annual firework display as well as the powerboat events that sometimes take place in the area.
If you fancy a spot of exercise then simply take a walk along the beachfront which stretches for just over a mile but don't expect it to be too quick as the children probably be stopping a lot to collect pocketfuls of shells and unusual stones along the way and to see what the beach anglers have caught as well.
There is also a delightful 5 mile walk here (you will need to check the tides) call the Lepe Loop which should take around 2 hours to complete.
Lepe Country Park has ample facilities if you plan to stay for the day with plenty of car parking, toilet facilities and a good shop and café making it an ideal family day out.
