New Forest Attractions and New Forest Activities - Family Things To Do In The New Forest

A day trip or a holiday to The New Forest opens up a world of opportunities and wonderful things for you to see and do during your visit.

The forest has literally hundreds of festivals and events that run throughout the year in all the local towns and villages (seen our festivals and events page). But what is the right attraction for you will very much depend on whether you are a young family with children, nature lovers, or are visiting the forest for an annual holiday or a family day out.

For the keen outdoor types there is an abundance of New Forest walks within the park and some well marked cycling (see our new forest cycling page) routes as well, for the horse riding fraternity the forest is your oyster as there are no restrictions on your riding activities (except for private land of course) just make sure you follow the guidelines.

For animal lovers there is the reptile centre, the Raptor and Reptile centre, the Otter and Owl Centre and if you fancy a little bit of country life a visit to Longdown dairy farm is an absolute hit for the kids. You can also see a variety of ponies and deer (try Bolderwood) in the forest, as well as an abundance of other wildlife that can be found in the stunning natural habitat here.

No visit to the park would be complete without a visit to the world famous Exbury Gardens of course. This gardening gem is sure to please even those who are not gardeners and the kids will have a marvellous time hiding in between all the bushes and trees and exploring the many footpaths within the gardens 200 acres.

A little further down the road you have the village of Beaulieu which is a delightful stopping point for a lunchtime break but is also home to the world famous Beaulieu Motor Museum, Beaulieu palace house and Beaulieu Abbey.

Whilst in the Beaulieu area why not pop along to the Bucklers Hard Village and have a look at how the ship builders in Nelsons era lived in the olden days and the difference between the living standards of the skilled and unskilled labourers.

To find out about the history of the area a trip to the New Forest Museum will help you understand the way of the forest and if you want a really noisy day out take the kids to Paultons Park for the day with its many rides and attractions geared to the younger visitors.

And finally, if you ever do tire of the delights in the forest with Dorset on the doorstep Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are only a short drive away and yet a further world of attractions and adventures for the entire family no matter what there age.
