New Forest Cottages
New Forest Cottages
Without a shadow of doubt staying in a New Forest Cottage is most visitors ideal accommodation choice when it comes to holiday cottages in the national park.
The forest is literally scattered with quaint cottages and homes some of which are centuries old and many of the old (and some of the newer) properties still have the thatched roofs which were so commonplace many years ago.
With over 40 villages and towns in the area choosing the right area is important and if you are looking for a cottage during the quieter season don't wait to long to book it because it may be gone, especially if you want to stay in a thatched cottage
The art of thatching is still practised in the forest and if you want to learn more about this ancient skill you can visit Furzey Gardens where they have a thatching display so you can examine it close up.
So what can you expect from holiday cottage? Many of the cottages available will be part of a larger house or may be extensions to the existing buildings and most of them will have access to your own private garden area.
Equally they may even be detached buildings in the grounds of some of the larger homes in the area and are often quite secluded even with direct access to the forest itself.
There are also a number of holiday cottages and properties around that are let out during the summer months both in the local towns and villages so if total seclusion is not your thing one of the village cottages may be your best choice.
The standards in these self catering cottages tends to be very high and on occasion up to the standards of 3 and 4 star forest hotels, with well equipped kitchens en-suite bathrooms and barbecues so you can enjoy a nice summer time meal out in the open.
The actual standards of furnishing and facilities will naturally vary from cottage to cottage, as will the needs of the visitors so best advice is to always check with the owners to make sure your cottage has the facilities you need during your stay.
You can rest assured though that the cottages owners will do there very best to make sure your stay with them is a satisfactory one, and you can also be assured of a very warm welcome.
