Otter and Owl Centre

Otter and Owl Centre in The New Forest

With The forest now being a national park it’s hardly surprising that a lot goes on in the area to maintain the welfare of the local wildlife and to educate both the older and younger generation.

One such wildlife park is the Otter and Owl centre situated in Longdown not far from the Longdown Dairy Farm.

The Otter and Owl centre nestled in over 20 acres of beautiful ancient woodland and has an excellent collection of wildlife for you to enjoy including arguably Europe’s largest collection of otters, owls and other forest creatures.

The New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park was founded in 1984 by the Heap family who also own and operate The Chestnut Centre Wildlife Park in High Peak, Derbyshire and the World famous Battersea Park Children's Zoo in London.

The primary concern of the park here is the conservation and well being of the otters and owls and the family have been running a breeding and rehabilitation program for over 30 years now with many animals being returned to the wild where possible.

This wild life park is not only restricted to the otters an owls though, there are a number of other delightful and playful species to see during your visit, and to help the conservation process and educate the young their is also the opportunity to Adopt some of the animals so people can take more of an interest in their well being.

Other animals in the park include:

Pine martens, deer, minks, stoats, badgers, red foxes, lynx, wildcats, hedgehogs, wallabies, wild boar and polecats.

The park also has a pleasant restaurant, where you can relax during or after your visit or you can sit down and enjoy a relaxing cream tea while the kids dash off and explore the park.
